Nature inventory on Tespelduyn

The nature inventory at Tespelduyn is a valuable initiative that focuses on sustainability and biodiversity. In cooperation with the Bollenstreek Section of the KNNV, Tespelduyn has commissioned an extensive inventory of plants, trees, mushrooms, birds, butterflies, dragonflies and more. This resulted in a thorough report capturing the rich natural beauty of the estate and golf course.

By participating in the Committed to Green program and pursuing international GEO certification, Tespelduyn shows its commitment to the environment and nature. The improvement plan resulting from the inventory aims to create a greener and more biodiverse golf course and surroundings in the long term.

The inventory showed that Tespelduyn is home to a variety of species, with more than 630 different species identified over two years. This valuable data is essential for the conservation and promotion of biodiversity on the estate. The collaboration with KNNV illustrates a shared commitment to protecting and nurturing nature on Tespelduyn.

The enthusiasm and enjoyment of those involved during the inventory underscore the importance of these efforts. Tespelduyn and the KNNV hope for a fruitful continuation of their partnership to make the golf course and its surroundings even greener and more harmonious, with an eye for the wonderful biodiversity that this special location has to offer.

The nature inventory at Tespelduyn showed a wide variety of plants, birds, mushrooms and more. A larger enumerator group and area of expertise explained the higher numbers, including input from golfers. Engagement with nature grew. Although not all species from previous counts were observed, we did discover many new species. The vast terrain makes capturing everything that grows and flourishes a challenge. Nevertheless, we do not feel that diversity is declining. The 2021 results are presented by group.

The cameras captured several animals, including mice, polecat, pine marten, weasel, fox, and bats. Although no rabbits, deer, fallow deer and muskrats were observed, many moles and hares can be found on Tespelduyn.

Tespelduyn Estate and Golf Course attaches great importance to sustainability, especially in terms of the ecological system. In cooperation with the Bollenstreek Department of the KNNV, Tespelduyn commissioned a nature inventory in 2017 and 2018. This inventory was used for the GEO certification of Tespelduyn, which was successfully completed in November 2018. The inventory continued in 2018, with 30% more species seen than the previous year. Counting over a longer period proved important to get a thorough picture. In two years, a total of 630 different species were identified, indicating great variety at Tespelduyn.
